The story behind
Married With Children, according to DoReSol
The song Married With Children, written by Noel Gallagher, has an interesting story behind its creation. Part of the inspiration for its lyrics came from Noel's relationship with his then-partner, Louise Jones. Additionally, the title and theme were influenced by the American television series Married... with Children. This musical piece closes the debut album by Oasis, Definitely Maybe, released in 1994.
The version we hear on the record was recorded in 1992 in the bedroom of Mark Coyle, who, besides being a recording engineer, also contributed to the production alongside Owen Morris and the band itself. There was another demo with Noel singing, recorded during those same sessions, which has not been officially released to this day. Interestingly, an alternative mix with light percussion and backing vocals was included on a demo tape, Live Demonstration, distributed in 1993. This alternative version also appeared on the 2014 reissue of Definitely Maybe. During 1994 and 1995, Oasis used to perform this song adapted for the full band at their concerts, and one of those performances, recorded on April 17, 1995, at the Cliffs Pavilion, was officially released in the video Live by the Sea.
