The story behind
Mad Sounds, according to DoReSol
In Mad Sounds, the Arctic Monkeys explore the comforting power of music, an idea that resonates throughout the album AM. This piece, distinguished by its unhurried rhythm, follows the line of No. 1 Party Anthem, inviting reflection on how melodies can heal and bring value. What's interesting about this song is that it was the only one from the album AM to be performed live before its official release, without having been chosen as a promotional single. The musical composition of Mad Sounds bears the signature of Alan Smyth and Alex Turner.
The recording of AM, the English band's fifth studio work, took place in 2013. The production process was handled by James Ford, with co-production by Ross Orton, and took place in two locations: Sage & Sound Recording in Los Angeles and Rancho De La Luna in Joshua Tree, California. The album drew on diverse influences, from psychedelic rock and blues rock to R&B, funk, and soul, marking an foray by the Arctic Monkeys into sounds with hip hop undertones. For the mixing of Mad Sounds, the work of Tchad Blake was enlisted. The album featured contributions from artists such as Josh Homme, Bill Ryder-Jones, and Pete Thomas.
