The story behind
Lonely in Your Nightmare, according to DoReSol
The song Lonely in Your Nightmare, lasting 3 minutes and 49 seconds, was born during a period of great creative effervescence for Duran Duran. The album to which it belongs, Rio, released in May 1982, marked a turning point where the band explored sonorities beyond their debut. For this record, the recording team, led by producer and engineer Colin Thurston, set up at AIR Studios in London between January and March 1982. It was there that the band experimented with an expanded sonic palette, incorporating instruments such as the vibraphone and marimba, and even capturing everyday sounds like the lighting of a cigarette or the crunching of ice cubes.
The path of Duran Duran leading up to Rio was marked by constant evolution. Formed in 1978 in Birmingham, Nick Rhodes and John Taylor were pillars from the start, initially joined by Simon Colley and Stephen Duffy. The band's name, taken from a character in the film Barbarella, already hinted at a visual and cinematic inclination. After some lineup changes, the arrival of Simon Le Bon as lead vocalist and Andy Taylor on guitar solidified the lineup that would record Rio. This album, which included hits like Hungry like the Wolf and Save a Prayer, became one of their most successful works, cementing their place within the "new romantics" scene alongside other bands of the era.
