The story behind
Live, according to DoReSol
On the recording of Sister (live), which lasts 7 minutes and 17 seconds, the essence of work carried out in an environment of collaboration and experimentation is perceived. The initial sessions took place in the studio that Lenny Kravitz had in his New York home, a space that, according to reports, received visits from figures such as Madonna, Chris Rock, Bobby Brown, Marilyn Manson, and Gwen Stefani during the creation process. Later, the work continued at Compass Point Studios in The Bahamas, under the supervision of engineer Terry Manning. This album, 5, released in May 1998 by Virgin Records, is characterized by mixing influences from the '70s, such as funk and soul, with Kravitz's rock style, also incorporating digital technology such as synthesizers and tape loops to give it a particular sound.
Lenny Kravitz, born in New York in 1964, is a multifaceted artist who has defined his career by a retro style that fuses blues, rock, soul, funk, reggae, and hard rock, among other genres. In his recordings, he often performs most of the instruments, including guitars, bass, drums, and keyboards, in addition to lead vocals and backing vocals. His career has led him to win the Grammy Award for "Best Male Rock Vocal Performance" on four consecutive occasions, between 1999 and 2002. The album 5, of which Sister (live) is a part, was Kravitz's fifth studio work and spawned six singles that were released between 1998 and 1999.
