The story behind

La vie à 2, according to DoReSol

The song La vie à 2, with its duration of 3 minutes and 1 second, is from Manu Chao's debut album, Clandestino, released in 1998. This album, in particular, was mostly recorded by the musician himself in different corners of the world, using a laptop he referred to as "Clandestino Studio" in the album notes. Manu Chao's work is characterized by the incorporation of speech fragments, as heard in Clandestino, where excerpts from a speech by Subcomandante Marcos appear. The album Clandestino has been recognized in publications such as the French edition of Rolling Stone, which included it among the 100 best French rock albums, and it was also cited in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. In 2020, it ranked 469th on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Manu Chao, whose full name is José Manuel Arturo Tomás Chao Ortega, was born in Paris, France, in 1961. Of Spanish parents, he has developed a musical career spanning several languages, singing in French, Spanish, English, Galician, and Portuguese. His beginnings were in Paris, playing on the street and being part of groups like Hot Pants and Los Carayos, where he experimented with various styles and languages. In 1987, together with his brother Antoine Chao and other friends, he founded the band Mano Negra, which achieved notable success in Europe and Latin America. After Mano Negra's dissolution in 1995, Manu Chao began his solo career, usually performing with his live band, Radio Bemba. He currently resides in Barcelona. His lyrics often address themes such as love, life in marginalized neighborhoods, and immigration, influenced by his family's history, which emigrated from Spain during the dictatorship of Francisco Franco. His political convictions, close to anarchism and linked to his friend Jorge Abascal, are also reflected in many of his compositions, especially in Clandestino.
