The story behind
Januária, according to DoReSol
La grabación de Januária has something special about it: it was captured in a single take, without cuts or adjustments, as if time had stopped in that Milan studio during 1975. Toquinho and Vinícius de Moraes improvised between laughter, comments, and even a few mistakes that were recorded, as if the album were a sound portrait of their friendship. Only Toquinho's guitar and Vinícius' voice —without additional arrangements— to revisit, in less than a minute and a half, an important part of their shared history: from collaborations with Antônio Carlos Jobim, Carlos Lyra, and Baden Powell to the songs they composed as a duo.
It was in that atmosphere of "total lack of concentration," as the cover of the album O poeta e o violão puts it, where Januária was born. The session lasted for hours, but the result was condensed into 94 seconds: a pure instant where the violão and poetry blend without filters. The album, released by the record label RGE that same year, is one of the few times Vinícius recorded his own hits with his own voice, something he rarely did in his previous works.
