The story behind
Irresistible Force, according to DoReSol
The song Irresistible Force, released in March 1997, stands out on the album Still Waters for its sound that fuses the energy of rock with synthesizer elements. The composition, born in 1995, was initially recorded as a demo in 1996, before being finalized alongside Miracles Happen. In its production, the work of Hugh Padgham is appreciated, who also handled the mixing alongside Chris Carroll. The instrumentation of this piece includes keyboards by Maurice Gibb and Robbie Kondor, who had already collaborated with the group on their 1987 album, E.S.P.. The guitars were played by Waddie Watchtel and Carlos Alomar, the latter known for his work with artists such as David Bowie and John Lennon. On the rhythmic base, we find Pino Palladino on bass, a session musician with an extensive career alongside figures like Simon & Garfunkel and Eric Clapton, and Steve Jordan on drums.
Still Waters, the album on which Irresistible Force is featured, was the twenty-first and penultimate studio work by the Bee Gees. Released in the United Kingdom in March 1997 by Polydor Records and in the United States in May of the same year by A&M Records, the album featured collaborations with several renowned producers, including Russ Titelman, David Foster, Hugh Padgham, and Arif Mardin. The gestation of this album took place in a particular context: in 1994, a tour scheduled to promote Size Isn't Everything (1993) was postponed due to Barry Gibb's health problems. Following this cancellation, there was talk of a project for acoustic versions of songs written by the brothers for other artists, which would eventually be known as Love Songs. The music of Irresistible Force, with its duration of 4:36, is an example of the pop-rock sound that the Bee Gees explored at this stage of their career.
