Cultura Profética has been shaping its sound on tour for years, and in that back-and-forth, songs were born that later defined La Dulzura. "Ilegal" is one of those tracks that left its mark before even stepping into a studio: the band shaped it live for months, testing arrangements at every show until it was ready to record. The song not only preserves that organic pulse but its length — five minutes and five seconds — gives it room to breathe, something not always seen with such calm in reggae.

The album was released in 2010 under their own label, La Mafafa, a move Rodríguez justified without hesitation: record labels weren’t offering terms that suited them, so they decided to release the album on their own. Before its official launch, the band had already shared songs online, and "Ilegal" was one of the first to circulate. That gesture, combined with the live recording, gave the track an air of spontaneity that later became part of its vinyl essence.
