When Laura Pausini released Il mio sbaglio più grande, she did so as the second single from her album Tra te e il mare, released in the year 2000. The musical composition was handled by Andreas Carlsson and Alistair Thomson, while the Italian lyrics were written by Laura Pausini herself, along with Cheope and Giuseppe Dati. For the Spanish-speaking market, the adaptation into Spanish, titled Un error de los grandes, featured the collaboration of Badia. Both tracks, the original and its Spanish version, were broadcast on radio and accompanied by music videos.

In 2002, the song was adapted into English as Every Day Is a Monday for the album From the Inside, released in Italy in 2003. A remastered version of Every Day Is a Monday was included on the albums 20 - The Greatest Hits and 20 - Grandes Exitos in 2013. The album Entre tú y mil mares, the Spanish version of Tra te e il mare, received a nomination for a Latin Grammy in 2001 in the category of Best Female Pop Vocal Album.
