The story behind

When you dive into *I Should Have Known Better*, you immediately notice how John Lennon's harmonica welcomes you. It's interesting to know that it was the last time they used this instrument in an intro, marking a small sonic milestone. The piece was recorded in two days, February 25th and 26th, 1964, at EMI studios in London. On the first day, during the recording of take two, Lennon burst into laughter at his own harmonica playing, which led to redoing it the next day with some arrangement adjustments. In the middle part of the song, you can hear George Harrison's new Rickenbacker 360/12 12-string guitar, which gives a special color to that section.

This song was created specifically for the film *A Hard Day's Night*, and it appears in a scene inside a train carriage. Curiously, to simulate movement, they filmed the sequence in a van while the crew members shook it. Although Paul McCartney doesn't sing on the original recording, he is seen lip-syncing in the film. In the United States, I Should Have Known Better was released as the B-side of the single A Hard Day's Night on July 13, 1964, reaching number 53 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 43 on the Cash Box chart. In Europe, it had a great reception, reaching number one in Norway and Sweden, and number six in West Germany. In the United Kingdom, it was part of the album A Hard Day's Night, released on July 10, 1964. Later, in 1976, it was released as the B-side of the single Yesterday.
