The story behind

There's something about *I'm Waiting For The Day* that grabs you from the very first moment. It's not just the melody, which invites you to follow along, but how the instrumentation envelops you. You'll hear how the sound of a timpani marks the beginning and the end, almost like a heartbeat, which softens to make way for other instruments. The flute draws a repeating figure, and in the faster parts, where the lead voice of Brian Wilson sounds with urgency, an English horn accompanies it, adding a layer of longing and resignation at the same time. It's as if every sound was designed to paint the emotions of the lyrics, that desire for someone who has suffered to be able to love again.

This piece, which is part of the album *Pet Sounds*, was recorded between March and April 1966. Brian Wilson, who also produced the song, had the collaboration of 17 studio musicians. The composition is attributed to Brian Wilson and Mike Love, who contributed some modifications to the original lyrics. When Wilson was asked about the inspiration behind the song in 2014, he mentioned that there was no specific reason. However, the lyrics present us with a narrator who offers to heal a person's broken heart, patiently waiting for the day when that person is ready to love again. It's a story that, while optimistic in its hope, also hints at that feeling of being in an intermediate point, an uncertain zone between friendship and love.
