The story behind
Hush Your Mouth, according to DoReSol
The song Hush Your Mouth, born from the mind of Ellas McDaniel, better known as Bo Diddley, represents a fragment of the sound that defined "The Originator". Its duration, 2 minutes and 51 seconds, condenses the energy and rhythmic proposal that characterized him. Bo Diddley, a key figure in the evolution of blues towards rock and roll, contributed powerful rhythms and a distinctive electric guitar sound, fusing African influences with a five-accent rhythmic pattern that became a pillar for popular music.
This track is part of the compilation Bo Diddley, released by Chess Records in 1958. This collection brought together several of his most resonant and impactful singles, recorded between 1955 and 1958. The album Bo Diddley, along with its successor Go Bo Diddley from 1959, were recognized years later, in 2012, by Rolling Stone magazine, appearing on their list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. The composition of Hush Your Mouth, like most of his work, bears the signature of Ellas McDaniel.
