The story behind

Home, according to DoReSol

The first time I heard Home, what struck me most was how Crow lowers the volume and pace to tell something painful. There are no screams or guitar riffs, just a whispered voice that cuts deep when she says, "my home is full of lies." The song doesn’t aim for epic: it favors the shuffle of a light drumbeat, acoustic guitars tangled with sharp electric riffs, and an atmosphere that wavers between intimacy and rawness. It’s folk, but with that bluesy edge that makes a ballad feel like an unexpected punch.

They recorded it in two different studios: first at Kingsway in New Orleans, then at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles. The result is a warm yet unpolished sound, as if the song had been born from a midnight conversation. Crow handled everything: the lyrics, the music, the production. The album Sheryl Crow —from which this single comes— broke away from the collective style of her previous record, Tuesday Night Music Club, and it shows here: every note seems crafted so the listener feels the weight of each word. The video, in black and white and directed by Samuel Bayer, shows Crow at a rural car race festival, where neighbors define what "home" means to them. In the end, she’s covered in mud, as if the song itself had dragged her to a place where the personal and the universal merge.
