Fun facts

Pink Floyd released this song in 1975, right when they were in the middle of their tour for Wish You Were Here. They recorded it in a London studio, and it was the first track on the B-side of the original LP. On the CD version, it follows Welcome to the Machine, as if it were a kind of prelude. The vocals were sung by Roy Harper, a guy who had already done things before, but in this case, they left it to him. The lyrics were written by Roger Waters, and although it doesn't sound like a conventional rock song, it has that heavy atmosphere that defines them. They released it on September 15th, an ordinary day, but at that moment it was part of an album that was going to change the way music was listened to.

The story behind

Pink Floyd released Have a Cigar in 1975, as part of Wish You Were Here. The song begins with a fast electric guitar riff, as if someone were playing in a bar. Then enters a guitar solo that becomes more intense, but cuts off suddenly. In its place, there is an AM radio sound, as if the music were fading away. This happens before the song ends, with another radio change, as if it were a natural transition to the next track. The lyrics are a critique of the hypocrisy of the music business. The main vocals were sung by Roy Harper, a singer who collaborated with the band. Roger Waters wanted to do it himself, but had trouble with the vocals. Harper offered by phone, and in the end, the song ended up in a cricket stadium. The song has a blues rock and funk rock rhythm, with a piano and synthesizer that make it sound rougher than the rest of the album.
