The story behind
The song Hand in Hand, with a duration of 5:22, is a piece found on the debut solo album by Phil Collins, titled Face Value. This work was released in 1981 under the Virgin label in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and internationally with Atlantic. Phil Collins, known for being the lead singer and drummer for the band Genesis, explored a sound on this record that, in the case of In the Air Tonight, reflected the somber mood stemming from the failure of his first marriage.
The production of Face Value featured the collaboration of Hugh Padgham, who also handled engineering alongside Nick Launay and Karen Segal, while Phil Collins shared production duties with Padgham. Philip David Charles Collins, born in Chiswick, England, in 1951, has had a distinguished career in rock music. From 1970 to 1996, he was the lead vocalist for Genesis, a group with whom he has had sporadic collaborations since 2007. His solo career has been very prolific, achieving significant sales. From a young age, he showed a great interest in music, learning to play the drums with toys and developing his own musical notation system, as he received no formal instruction in that regard. His training began at fourteen at the Barbara Speake Stage School, where he also had forays into acting.
