The story behind

When you dive into Guiltiness, you encounter a track that, although part of the 1977 album Exodus, stands out for its atmosphere. The production of this record, released by Bob Marley & The Wailers in June of that year through Island Records, is characterized by a relaxed sound, with basslines that invite movement and a special prominence of the piano, trumpet, and guitar. Unlike the band's previous works, Exodus moves away from complex narratives to explore themes such as change, religious politics, and sexuality. The album is conceptually divided: the first part addresses issues of faith and politics, while the second focuses on love and perseverance. The duration of this particular song is 3:20.

The recording of Exodus, and therefore of Guiltiness, took place in a specific context. Following an assassination attempt on Bob Marley on December 3, 1976, in Jamaica, where he was shot in the chest and arm, he decided to exile himself in London. It was there that this album was conceived, with recording engineering by Terry Barham, Guy Bidmead, and Karl Pitterson. The mixing involved AstonFamily ManBarrett, Chris Blackwell, and Karl Pitterson, while production was handled by Bob Marley & The Wailers. This record, which followed 1976's Rastaman Vibration, was not only a critical and commercial success, earning gold certifications in several countries, but also marked a turning point in Marley's international career. The album, remastered in 2017 to celebrate its 40th anniversary, contains more tracks included in the compilation Legend than any other of his records.
