The story behind
Get Ready, according to DoReSol
The song Get Ready, which is part of the album 461 Ocean Boulevard, has an interesting story behind its recording. The very Eric Clapton was in a moment of pause in his career, away from studios for three years due to his addiction. It was during this period of recovery that he moved into a house in Golden Beach, Florida, whose address, 461 Ocean Boulevard, gave its name to the album. The recording took place in the nearby Criteria Studios in Miami. Interestingly, after finishing this work, Clapton and Robert Stigwood, who ran RSO Records, recommended that same house and studios to the Bee Gees, who later moved there to create their album Main Course.
Get Ready, with a duration of 3 minutes and 48 seconds, was produced by Tom Dowd, while the recording engineering was handled by Steve Klein and Karl Richardson. This album marked Clapton’s return to the studio and was released in late July 1974, shortly after the single I Shot the Sheriff came out that same month. The album was very well received, reaching the top positions on international charts and selling over two million copies. The influence of Eric Clapton on the electric guitar, especially with his Stratocaster, is well known, and his nickname "Slowhand" has accompanied him since his early days with The Yardbirds.
