The story behind
Kool & the Gang released "Get Down on It" in 1981 as part of their album *Something Special*. The song blended funk and post-disco, with a beat that makes you want to move your body. The chorus, like a repeated shout, was the standout feature. The original version was longer, but the single version was edited to make it more straightforward. It reached the top 10 in the United States and the top 3 in the United Kingdom, where it remained for twelve weeks. Later, in 1996, it was re-released in Australia and New Zealand, where it went platinum. It was also re-recorded by Peter Andre and by Blue, who made it their own in Europe.
