The song was released in February 1959, just nine days after Valens died in a plane crash. It was not a release meant to capitalize on his popularity—it was his only studio album, recorded in a single session at Gold Star Studios with equipment that today would seem rudimentary. The album reached number 23 on the Billboard chart and had four singles that entered the charts, though Framed was not among the best-selling.
