The story behind
Every Christian Lion Hearted Man Will Show You, according to DoReSol
The first time you hear Every Christian Lion Hearted Man Will Show You, it might remind you of something you already know, perhaps due to the atmosphere it evokes, close to the psychedelia of the era or the choral textures that recall a Gregorian chant. But upon closer attention, you discover that the song is built on very particular sound layers. It begins with a chorus, almost a chant, that repeats four times, and this same motif appears after each verse. The lead vocals, handled by Barry Gibb, are accompanied by an electric rhythm guitar that carries significant weight in the structure. Maurice Gibb himself mentioned the use of the Mellotron on this track, an instrument that provided unique textures and which he himself used to recreate with an organ in live performances. The song was recorded on March 23, 1967, along with other tracks like Please Read Me and In My Own Time.
This track, Every Christian Lion Hearted Man Will Show You, was part of the album Bee Gees' 1st, released in 1967. In the United States, Australia, and Canada, it was released as the B-side of the single Holiday, in September and October of the same year, respectively. Later, in 1969, it was also included in the compilation Best of Bee Gees. Years later, Barry Gibb revived it on his Mythology tour in 2013 and 2014. The Bee Gees, composed of brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb, were born on the Isle of Man and later lived in England and Australia, before returning to the United Kingdom in 1967 to begin a career that would lead them to become one of the best-selling groups in history.
