The melody of Estrellitas y duendes unfolds with the warmth of bachata, but is also nourished by the melancholy of bolero, creating a particular sonic atmosphere. This piece, released in 1991, was part of the album Bachata Rosa, a work that marked a milestone by bringing bachata to a wider audience, both in the Dominican Republic and internationally. The song achieved notable reception, ranking among the top ten most listened to on the US Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart and also on the Dominican Airplay list. Some time later, in 2001, a live performance of Estrellitas y duendes was included in the compilation album Colección Romántica.
Bachata Rosa, the album from which this song is taken, was released on December 11, 1990. This discographic work, which includes bachata as the main genre but also fuses elements of merengue and salsa, was a turning point for Dominican music. The album, released by Karen Records, even had a Portuguese edition titled Romance Rosa in 1992, which obtained gold certification in Brazil. The album was recognized with a Grammy Award in the category of Best Tropical Latin Album, in addition to two Lo Nuestro Awards.
