The story behind
El huracán, according to DoReSol
La Vela Puerca shaped El huracán during a pivotal moment for the band. That 3:53-minute track was born when they had already been touring for years, yet still carried the energy of their early albums. They recorded it in a session that blended the rawness of live shows with the precision of a studio, something evident in how the brass cuts through every line. The song isn’t just a catchy rhythm: it’s that instant when ska, reggae, and rock merge effortlessly, as if the band had stumbled upon the sound that would define them.
It all started in Montevideo, where Sebastián Teysera, "el Enano," and the others pieced together Deskarado with whatever they had. The album emerged from a contest they entered on the sly, but when Obligado Records granted them extra studio time and Claudio Taddei as producer, the material took a leap. By the time El huracán was sounding live, the band had just played the Teatro de Verano and opened for Los Piojos, a moment when Uruguayan audiences began to follow them closely. The remix by Gustavo Santaolalla and the re-release through Surco/Universal took them to Argentina, where the 2000 Girafónica left them hoarse but with their name on everyone’s lips.
