The story behind
El balcón, according to DoReSol
In El balcón, Café Tacvba presents a piece that, in just one minute and forty seconds, condenses a particular atmosphere. The song, which is part of the album Re, is distinguished by its brevity and by how it manages to build its own sonic space in such a short time. It is an example of how the band, in this work, dared to explore textures and atmospheres that went beyond the conventional, inviting the listener to a suspended moment.
This track was conceived during the recording of Re, released in 1994. The creative process took place in Cuernavaca, Morelos, with the band taking on production alongside Gustavo Santaolalla. For this album, Rubén Albarrán, the vocalist, adopted the name "Cosme". The album itself is known for Café Tacvba's experimentation, fusing genres as diverse as Mexican regional music, punk, funk, and grunge, and El balcón fits into that sonic quest. Musicians such as Luis Conte and Alejandro Flores also collaborated on the making of Re.
