When you dive into East Virginia, you encounter an interpretation that evokes the pure essence of folk music. This track is part of Joan Baez's first album, released in 1960 under the Vanguard Records label. The recording, completed in just four days in Manhattan, focused on the artist's voice and guitar, with the collaboration of Fred Hellerman on some parts. The idea was to maintain a stripped-down sound, without the addition of choirs or wind or string instruments that could detract from the essence of the thirteen traditional folk songs that make up the album. Although the album was well-received, its real chart momentum came a couple of years later, in 1962, driven by the success of her subsequent work.
