The story behind

Dyers Eve, according to DoReSol

Dyers Eve closes the album ...And Justice for All with an intensity that offers no respite. It is a track that stands out for the forcefulness of Lars Ulrich's percussion, where the double bass drum takes center stage and sets a frenetic pace. In fact, it is said that this song reaches Metallica's highest speeds, reaching 195 beats per minute in its most accelerated passages, even surpassing tracks like Metal Militia from Kill 'Em All. The lyrics, which repeat the phrase "Dear mother, dear father" about ten times, are interpreted as an expression of James Hetfield's fury at the difficulties and excessive protection he felt in his childhood from his parents, a theme with which many young people can identify.

This track was part of Metallica's fourth studio album, ...And Justice for All, released in September 1988. It was a significant album because it marked the first appearance of bassist Jason Newsted, who joined the band after the tragic death of Cliff Burton in 1986. The music for Dyers Eve was conceived by James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, and Lars Ulrich, with arrangements by Hetfield and Ulrich. The production involved the group itself along with Flemming Rasmussen, who also handled the recording engineering with Toby Wright. The sound mixing was carried out by Michael Barbiero, George Cowan, and Steve Thompson.
