The story behind
Metallica played Harvester of Sorrow before the album was released, at a club in Los Angeles in May 1988. The song was recorded that same year in a Los Angeles studio. It became a staple of their concerts. The title comes from a novel by Robert Conquest, which speaks of the death of Ukrainian peasants during the collectivization under Stalin. It is not an easy song, by any means. The lyrics are based on a work by Rachmaninov, and Marvel comics used the name for a weapon. The duration is five minutes and forty-five seconds, and it was the first single from the album …And Justice for All. ↓ Skip to chords
