The story behind

When you listen to Don't Stop Me Now, it's easy to feel that driving energy. The song, written by Freddie Mercury, captures a feeling of total euphoria, as if you were on top of the world. The lyrics speak of a moment of pure fun and lack of control, of feeling unstoppable. Musically, it relies heavily on Mercury's piano, with a solid rhythmic foundation of bass and drums handled by John Deacon and Roger Taylor. Queen's signature, those layered vocal harmonies that create such a rich sound, are especially showcased in the choruses. There is an alternative version that appeared in 2018, called Don't Stop Me Now... Revisited, which gives it a more powerful guitar touch.

The recording of this piece took place in August 1978, at Super Bear Studios, located in Berre-les-Alpes, France. It was part of the album Jazz, released the following year, on January 26, 1979. Although at the time the single did not climb very high on the US charts, reaching number 86, it did receive a good reception on album-oriented rock radio stations. In Great Britain, however, it reached ninth place. Over time, the song gained a special place. Its popularity grew thanks to its use in films, advertisements, and television series. For example, it was strongly associated with the 2004 film Shaun of the Dead, which many consider gave it a new boost. In 2014, Rolling Stone readers voted it their third favorite Queen song. Even in March 2019, a Billboard article highlighted how this song, which had moderate success at first, had become one of the band's most beloved and recognizable.
