The story behind
Didgin’ Out, according to DoReSol
In *Didgin’ Out*, the band explores a particular sound that is distinguished by the use of the didgeridoo, an ancestral instrument that brings a unique texture. This element, which also appears in *When You Gonna Learn?*, gives the piece a distinctive air within the debut album. The song, with a duration of 2 minutes and 37 seconds, was part of Emergency On Planet Earth, the first work by Jamiroquai. The lyrics of the singles from this album, including those that are part of Emergency On Planet Earth, are characterized by a message of protest, addressing themes such as pollution, food shortages, indiscriminate hunting, and deforestation.
Emergency On Planet Earth, released in 1992, marked the beginning of Jamiroquai on the international funk scene. The album, recorded in London, was produced by Jay Kay and engineer Mike Nielsen, who were also responsible for the mixing. The band's sound, which fuses funk with touches of acid jazz, disco, and electronic music, was consolidated with this work, positioning them as references of a musical movement that included other groups such as Brand New Heavies, Incognito, Galliano, and Corduroy. Singer Jason Kay, also known as Jay Kay, led the original lineup with musicians such as Toby Smith on keyboards, Stuart Zender on bass, Nick Van Gelder on drums, and Wallis Buchanan on didgeridoo. While the lineup has evolved over time, the essence of Jamiroquai was forged in these recording sessions.
