This piece is part of the album D'eux, the Canadian singer's thirteenth studio work, and is distinguished by having reached the third position on the region's radio charts, remaining there for 37 weeks in early 1996, after its entry on January 20 of that year.
The recording of Destin took place between November and December 1994 at Méga Studio in Paris, France. Most of the songs on the album D'eux, including this one, were composed by Jean-Jacques Goldman, who also handled the production alongside Erick Benzi. Of the pop genre and with a duration of 4:15, the song was a recurring element in Céline Dion's concert tours, being frequently performed between 1995 and 2013. Additionally, in 2005, it was included in her greatest hits compilation On ne change pas. The career of Céline Dion, born in Charlemagne, Quebec, in 1968, led her to international recognition since the 1980s, after winning events such as the Yamaha Popular Song Festival in 1982 and the Eurovision Song Contest in 1988.
