The story behind
Despertar, according to DoReSol
The song *Despertar* by Héroes del Silencio, with its duration of 2:52, immerses us in a sound that fused elements of gothic rock, pop, and hard rock. This track is part of *Senderos de Traición*, the Spanish band's second studio album, recorded at the Kirios studios in Madrid. The production was handled by Phil Manzanera, under the Sound & Management label from Zurich. For the mixing, they moved to Metropolis Studios in London, where Keith Bessey was in charge of sound engineering. The album, conceived as an introspective work, aimed to better reflect the band's live energy, something they felt they hadn't fully achieved with their 1988 debut, *El mar no cesa*.
Héroes del Silencio, originally from Zaragoza, established themselves as a benchmark in Spanish rock. The group was formed in the mid-80s, with Juan Valdivia on lead guitar and Enrique Bunbury on vocals and rhythm guitar, joined by Joaquín Cardiel on bass and Pedro Andreu on drums. Their proposal was characterized by a distinctive image, with particular symbolism, and music that combined transcendental lyrics with complex arpeggios and a powerful rhythmic foundation. Literary influences such as those of William Blake and Charles Baudelaire intertwined with musical references from bands like Led Zeppelin and The Cult.
After twelve years of career, more than six million records sold, and a thousand concerts, the band separated in 1996. In 2007, they announced a one-time reunion for a commemorative tour, titled *Héroes del Silencio Tour 2007*, which included ten concerts in Spain and America.
