The story behind
Desde que despierto hasta que duermo, according to DoReSol
Un día normal was no ordinary album for Juanes. Released in May 2002, it took just days to dominate Colombia: gold status on its first day of sales. But it didn’t stop there: it also reached platinum in the United States, Spain and Mexico, and in Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart, it stayed in the top ten for 92 weeks—a feat no one had achieved before at the time. The song in question, Desde que despierto hasta que duermo, is part of that phenomenon: a track that, though not a promotional single, ended up resonating on the radio and in the homes of thousands who made it their own.
The album was born at a pivotal moment for Juanes. After leaving his metal band Ekhymosis in 1999, he ventured into a solo career. In 2000, he released Fíjate bien, which had already earned him a strong reputation, but it was Un día normal that turned his voice into a defining sound across Latin America. Every song on the album—including this one—was written by him, with no outside collaborations. Recorded in Medellín, his hometown, it captured that raw, direct sound that later translated into sales and stage performances. He wasn’t chasing awards or records, yet he ended up breaking them without even trying.
