The story behind
Del otro lado del sol, according to DoReSol
The album Del otro lado del sol, released on September 17, 1991, represents the third studio work by Guatemalan singer-songwriter Ricardo Arjona. Although this record did not achieve great public notoriety at the time, its compositions have shown remarkable longevity. Many of these songs were later included in other projects by the artist, often with different arrangements than the originals. A clear example is Te conozco, one of Arjona's most recognized pieces, which has been reinterpreted on various occasions for albums such as Historias, Vivo, Solo, Quién dijo ayer, and in the tribute Arjona Tropical. Other songs like Piel de consumo, Gitano urbano, and Que voy a hacer conmigo also appeared in compilations alongside other artists, but with versions that deviated from the recording present in Del otro lado del sol. The duration of the main track, Del otro lado del sol, is 4:21.
Ricardo Arjona Morales, born on January 19, 1964, in Jocotenango, Guatemala, is an artist who has traveled diverse paths, from basketball to teaching, before consolidating himself as a singer-songwriter. It is estimated that his musical career has surpassed twenty million productions sold, positioning him as a prominent figure in Latin America. His musical repertoire is extensive and ranges from ballads to Latin pop, rock, pop rock, and Cuban rhythms, incorporating in more recent stages a cappella elements and fusions of Tex-Mex, Norteño, African-American, and Latin music. Arjona is known for his lyrical approach, frequently addressing universal themes such as love, but also exploring profound social issues, such as racism, homosexuality (in Que nadie vea), kidnapping (in La nena, bitácora de un secuestro), rape, immigration (in Mojado, Puente), abortion (in Con una estrella), religion (in Jesús verbo no sustantivo), machismo, prostitution (in Marta, Cita en el bar), and pivotal events like terrorist attacks (in Mesías, Nadie sabe a donde va). By 2011, Arjona had released thirteen studio albums, one live album, nine compilations, and forty-three singles. Four of his albums reached the top of the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart in the United States, and ten reached number one in Argentina. Furthermore, four of his discographic works entered the Billboard 200. Regarding singles, four of them led the Billboard Top Latin Songs chart, and seven reached prominent positions.
