The story behind
Cover Me (dub I), according to DoReSol
The song Cover Me (dub I), part of the album Born in the U.S.A., has its roots in a period of intense creation for Bruce Springsteen. Some of the ideas that make up this record emerged from demo tapes prepared for his previous work, Nebraska, released in 1982. The recording sessions for Born in the U.S.A. were an extensive process, spanning two years, from January 1982 to March 1984, in New York City. During this time, the band worked on a considerable volume of material, generating between 70 and 90 songs. From this large collection, some ended up as B-sides of singles, others appeared on compilations, and a significant number have yet to be released.
The overall sound of Born in the U.S.A. leans more towards pop than his previous works, with production that reflects 80s rock, characterized by the notable use of synthesizers and drums with a very pronounced snare. Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen, also known as The Boss, is an artist whose music has explored rock and folk over four decades. His connection with the E Street Band has been fundamental, contributing a distinctive sound and a stage presence that often results in concerts exceeding three hours in duration. The album Born in the U.S.A. was released on June 4, 1984, under the Columbia Records label.
The production of this record was handled by Springsteen along with Jon Landau, Steven Van Zandt, and Chuck Plotkin. The recorded duration for Cover Me (dub I) is 4:02.
