The story behind
When Prince released Around the World in a Day in April 1985, he took a different path from the massive success of Purple Rain. Instead of following the commercial formula, he dedicated himself to exploring richer textures and a style that leaned towards the psychedelic. The record label respected his wish for the project to be appreciated in its entirety before being broken down, so the album reached the public with minimal promotion, and the singles didn't appear until almost a month after its release.
Prince Rogers Nelson, born in Minneapolis in 1958 and passed away in Chanhassen in 2016, was an artist who defined an era with his fusion of rock, soul, funk, and new wave. He was a key figure in the 80s, innovating and laying the groundwork for the so-called "Minneapolis sound." This style had been developing since his third album, Dirty Mind, and was consolidated in 1981 with Controversy, and was even reflected in the debut album of The Time. His popularity reached its peak with Purple Rain in 1984, a work that earned him an Oscar for best original score and a Grammy, in addition to catapulting songs like When Doves Cry and Let's Go Crazy to worldwide fame.
