The story behind
The song Color humano, born from the mind of Edelmiro Molinari, is the second piece we find on the debut album by Almendra, released in 1969. With its more than nine minutes in length, it presents itself as an extensive development of heavy rock, where instrumental passages take on special prominence. This is where the electric guitar solos of Molinari, recognized as one of the most outstanding guitarists of Argentine rock, truly shine. The structure of the song is sustained by a repeating musical pattern, a sequence of chords that Luis Alberto Spinetta uses as a base, interrupted only by a brief chorus. The lyrics, for their part, establish an analogy between the human condition and colors, while simultaneously questioning our understanding of what a color is, despite being "colors" ourselves.
This track, along with the rest of the album Almendra I, became a turning point for popular music in Argentina. At a time when rock, although booming worldwide, was mostly sung in English and often lacked originality in Spanish, Almendra proved that it was possible to create a unique and profound sound in our language. The complete album, recorded when Spinetta was only 19 years old, was fundamental in defining the identity of the so-called "national rock." The influence of Almendra I was such that, in 1985, a poll among journalists and musicians pointed to it as the most influential album of Argentine rock, by a wide margin surpassing other important works. The title of Color humano, in fact, would later inspire the formation of the band Color Humano, led by Molinari himself.
