The story behind
Clube da Esquina nº 2, according to DoReSol
Clube da Esquina nº 2 was born as a whisper between chords. The original version, recorded in 1971, was just a violão melody that Milton Nascimento let flow in the studio, with some murmurs slipping between the notes. There were no lyrics, only the skeletal sound of what would later become an iconic track. Later, Eumir Deodato's arrangements gave it form, but the heart remained that intimate moment where the music was built without haste. The lyrics came years later, written by Márcio Borges at the request of Nana Caymmi for her 1979 album. Lô Borges included it in his album A Via Láctea that same year, and Milton recorded it in Angelus in 1993.
Other artists such as Flávio Venturini, Leo Gandelman, and Vânia Bastos also covered it, while Clara Sandroni recorded it in 1989. With a duration of 3:39, the song became a bridge between the instrumental and the vocal, between the fleeting and the enduring.
