The story behind

Close Another Door, according to DoReSol

When the Bee Gees recorded "Close Another Door", they did so at Ryemuse Studios in London during April 1967. It was a different work from the rest of the material that would make up their album Bee Gees' 1st, as most of the other songs were recorded at IBC Studios. This piece, written by Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb, and Maurice Gibb, was originally released as the B-side of the single "To Love Somebody". The main vocal performance falls to Robin Gibb, with Barry Gibb adding to the chorus. Although classified as a rock track, the song experiences a slowdown towards its end, incorporating an orchestral arrangement by Bill Shepherd. An interesting detail of its structure is that the first verse is presented a cappella, and after the final chorus, an extended cadence unfolds. The lyrical theme addresses the passage of time and the figure of an elderly person in a care home.

The production of "Close Another Door" was handled by Robert Stigwood and Ossie Byrne. The recorded duration for this song is 3:29. The Bee Gees, founded in 1958, consisted of brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. Born on the Isle of Man to English parents, they spent their early years in Chorlton, Manchester, England, before moving to Redcliffe, Queensland, Australia, in the late fifties, where they began their musical career. After achieving their first hit on the Australian charts with "Spicks and Specks", they returned to the United Kingdom in January 1967, at which point Robert Stigwood began to promote their international projection.
