The story behind
Clavado en un bar, according to DoReSol
Maná released it in 1997 as the second single from Sueños Líquidos, but it wasn’t just another track on the album: the song slipped into radios and stayed. On its debut on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart, it entered at position 17, and five weeks later, on November 8, it climbed to 12, where it remained for two consecutive weeks. It wasn’t a fleeting success: it held its place in the ranking for ten weeks, something not all songs manage.
They recorded it in Puerto Vallarta, a city that always held special meaning for Maná. Water, the element that flows through all of Sueños Líquidos, also shaped the creative process: the album was born with that idea in mind, and the band sought to make the sound reflect that fluidity. It wasn’t a coincidence that the album went on to win their first Grammy in the category Best Latin Rock/Alternative Performance, nor that Premios Lo Nuestro recognized it shortly after. The song, clocking in at five minutes and twelve seconds, became a bridge between the pop rock they already mastered and the Latin rock that would take them to other markets.
