When approaching Cae el sol, the first thing that stands out is how the song's main melody seems to evoke that of The Beatles' Here Comes the Sun. Furthermore, the backing vocals accompanying the performance bring to mind Robert Plant's whispered voices in The Ocean. This piece closes the 1990 album Canción Animal, and was conceived by Gustavo Cerati, with the collaboration of Daniel Melero, who participated as a guest artist during the Gira Animal.

The audiovisual recording of this song takes us to one of the concerts that Soda Stereo offered at the Teatro Gran Rex in Buenos Aires. The video, directed by Caíto Lorenzo and released in 1991 as the second single from Canción Animal, shows the group live. However, the audio accompanying the images is not from that performance, but the original studio-recorded version. In one of those concerts, Cerati modified the phrase "Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires, humidity!" to "Buenos Aires, Argentina, humidity!". The live performance of Cae el sol used to be a prelude to closing their shows with De música ligera, marking the end of their concerts. The song was also part of the repertoire of the Me Verás Volver tour.
