The story behind
The song *Big Wheels* by Electric Light Orchestra, with its 5:09 duration, immerses us in a sound that was born from a moment of intense inspiration for Jeff Lynne. He himself composed the entirety of the album to which it belongs, Out of the Blue, in a span of just over three weeks. This creative burst found him secluded in a rented retreat in the Swiss Alps, a place that undoubtedly inspired the atmosphere of the recording. The process of bringing those ideas to the studio took another two months, working in Munich. This album, released in 1977, became one of the band's most successful works, selling around ten million copies worldwide by 2007.
Out of the Blue stood out for being one of the first rock albums to extensively use the vocoder, a tool that helped popularize this technology in music. The band, originally from Birmingham, England, was founded by Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood with the idea of fusing rock with classical elements. After Wood's departure, Lynne took on the main role, handling the composition, arrangements, and production of all the material. Between 1971 and 1986, their period of greatest activity, ELO released eleven albums and achieved great recognition, especially in the United States, where they established themselves as one of the best-selling bands. Although they did not achieve a number one hit, they accumulated an impressive record of top 10 singles and hold a record for entries in the Billboard top 40.
