The story behind
What surprises most about Bailarina is not its catchy rhythm nor its easy-to-hum lyrics, but that detail that makes it sound different from everything else that came out at the time: the chorus is built on a melodic twist that repeats every few measures, as if the song breathes in short cycles but never tires of returning to the same point. It's not just any loop; it has a playful air that invites you to move your shoulders without realizing it, as if your body remembers before your mind does. Recorded in 1994, at the height of Argentine rock, it still sounds fresh today because that twist prevents it from feeling like a song of its time, but rather something that could play in any decade without losing strength.
The idea for Bailarina was born at the same time Los Enanitos Verdes were finishing Big Bang, their most ambitious album up to that point. They weren't aiming for a hit, but the song ended up being one of the most covered in years: in 2021, Mexican singer Junior H included it on his album $ad Boyz 4 Life, giving it an unexpected twist that proved the song could adapt to very different styles without losing its essence. At exactly three minutes and twenty-seven seconds long, the track holds together in that balance between simplicity and memorability, as if every note were calculated to stay in the listener's head without asking permission.
