The story behind
Anthem, according to DoReSol
The song Anthem by blink-182, which closes the album Enema Of The State released in 1999, leads us to imagine the consequences of an out-of-control party. The lyrics, written by Tom, narrate a very specific personal experience: organizing a large gathering at a friend's house, inviting thousands of people despite the host's parents only being out until midnight. The situation quickly escalated, with the police intervening and the parents finding out about everything upon their return, which created a big problem for the friend. Tom recalls the chaos: the broken sound system, a fight, and blood everywhere, but he describes it as very fun, especially because everyone collaborated on the cleanup before the parents came back.
This track, with a duration of 6:09, has a thematic continuation in Anthem Part 2, the first track from the band's next album, Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, released in 2001. The story behind Anthem is an example of how Tom took everyday situations and transformed them into songs, capturing that youthful energy and the anecdotes that remain etched.
