The story behind
Amor, according to DoReSol
The song Amor, performed by Cristian Castro, arose from a need to explore romantic concerns. The artist himself revealed in 2011 that he wrote it in New York during 1995, a period when he felt deep anxiety and frustration regarding love. Rather than focusing on a specific person, the lyrics are a plea to the very notion of love, asking it for a chance. Musically, it is described as soft acoustic rock, with touches of progressive pop-rock and a rhythm that evokes country. The recording took place in New York in 1995, and the result was a 4-minute and 57-second track that became the first single from the album El Deseo de Oír Tu Voz, released in November of that same year.
The release of Amor in November 1995, as a preview of the album El Deseo de Oír Tu Voz, marked Cristian Castro’s return after a period dedicated to studying cinematography in New York. The production was handled by Daniel Freiberg. The music video, filmed in Rome, Italy, shows the artist engaging in various urban activities, from bike rides and Vespa trips to aerobics routines, all while performing the song. In the United States, the track performed notably: it debuted at the third position on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart in January 1996 and reached the top spot two weeks later, remaining there for 11 consecutive weeks. This achievement positioned it as the second-highest-performing Latin song of the year in that country and also topped the Latin Pop Songs list. In 2014, it was recognized as the "Best Latin Love Song of All Time."
