The story behind
The song *Across the Border* by Electric Light Orchestra, with its 3 minutes and 53 seconds duration, immerses us in a sonic atmosphere that was built in a context of intense creativity. The album to which it belongs, Out of the Blue, was conceived by Jeff Lynne in just three and a half weeks, an explosion of inspiration that took place while he was isolated in a rented chalet in the Swiss Alps. After that compositional phase, the recording process extended for two additional months in Munich, with Mack as sound engineer and Lynne himself in charge of production. This work, released in October 1977, became one of the band's most successful albums, selling around 10 million copies worldwide by 2007.
Electric Light Orchestra, originally from Birmingham, England, was formed with the idea of fusing rock with classical elements. After the departure of Roy Wood, Jeff Lynne took over the leadership, taking charge of the composition, arrangements, and production of all the music. Between 1971 and 1986, the group's most active period, they released eleven albums and achieved considerable popularity, especially in the United States, where they positioned themselves as one of the best-selling bands. Although they did not achieve a number one hit, they accumulated numerous top 10 singles and hold a record for hits in the Billboard top 40. The album Out of the Blue is also remembered for being one of the first to extensively use the vocoder, helping to popularize this effect.
