The story behind

The song *A pedir su mano* by Juan Luis Guerra transports us with a contagious energy that mixes rhythms. Originally, the melody comes from a piece called *Dede Priscilla*, composed by Lea Lignanzi, originally from the Central African Republic. Taking this as a base, Juan Luis Guerra transformed it, fusing elements of Afropop and zouk with merengue. The result is a vibrant sound that is clearly perceived in the recording, inviting movement. The music video, for its part, evokes images of traditional African dances in rural landscapes, with a visual detail of a red train traversing the scene, adding a layer of narrative to the sonic proposal.

This piece was released in 1990 as part of the album Bachata Rosa, a work that became a milestone for bachata, bringing it to a wider audience both in the Dominican Republic and internationally. The recording of *A pedir su mano* took place that same year, and its release as a single also occurred in 1990 through Karem Records, reaching Europe in 1992 under the Ariola label. The song was recognized, winning the award for Video of the Year at the 1991 Lo Nuestro Awards. Furthermore, it has been included in important compilations by Guerra, such as Grandes Éxitos Juan Luis Guerra y 440, and live versions appeared on albums like A Son De Guerra Tour (2013) and Entre Mar y Palmeras (2021). In 2020, an acoustic reinterpretation was presented on the EP Privé.
