The story behind

The song *A estrada* by Cidade Negra, with its 4 minutes and 42 seconds, invites us to reflect on the path traveled, a theme that resonates with the band's essence. Their sound, forged in a unique blend, draws from the roots of Jamaican rhythm, with a clear admiration for Bob Marley, and is nourished by the richness of Brazilian music, such as that of Tim Maia, without forgetting the energy of funk, the soul of the 1970s, and the power of classic rock from Led Zeppelin. This amalgamation of influences is what defines Cidade Negra's particular and unmistakable style.

The story of how this sound came to be is as interesting as the music itself. The band's beginnings date back to shared faith and passion. Bino, whose father played guitar and whose mother sang in a choir, found his first contact with music in that environment. It was there that he met Da Gama and Lazão, and together they formed Novo Tempo, with the initial goal of performing at a church festival. In 1983, with the arrival of Bernardo, the group took the name Lumiar. Rehearsals, often with borrowed equipment, took place at Da Gama's house. A BBC London documentary, focusing on Baixada culture and highlighting the band, propelled their journey. This external interest culminated in 1990, when Sony Music, then CBS, decided to bet on them. The following year, in 1991, with Nelson Meirelles and Eduardo Egs producing, they released their first album, Lute Para Viver. This work was characterized by its maturity, addressing lyrics with political content and reflections on life. From this album, the track Falar a Verdade became a resounding success, playing on all radio stations in Brazil.
