The story behind

The song *A cor do sol* by Cidade Negra brings us a vibe that is nurtured by a very particular mix of influences. Imagine a sound that fuses Jamaican rhythm, with Bob Marley as the main reference, added to the richness of Brazilian music by artists like Tim Maia, and the funk and soul of the 1970s, without forgetting the power of rock classics like Led Zeppelin. This combination of styles was the basis for forging that distinctive sound that characterizes the band.

The journey of Cidade Negra began humbly, driven by faith and shared passion. It was in a church choir that Bino, whose father played guitar and his mother sang, met Da Gama and Lazão. Together they formed the group Novo Tempo with the initial goal of performing at a church festival. In 1983, with the arrival of Bernardo, the group was renamed Lumiar, a name they later had to change due to the existence of another band with the same name, finally adopting Cidade Negra. Rehearsals took place at Da Gama's house, using borrowed equipment. A BBC London documentary about culture in the Baixada, which focused on the band, gave them a significant boost. This led to the record label Sony Music, then CBS, deciding to bet on them in 1990. The following year, in 1991, with Nelson Meirelles and Eduardo Egs producing, they released their first album, *Lute Para Viver*. This work, full of maturity, featured lyrics with political content and reflections on life. From this album, the song *Falar a Verdade* became a resounding success, playing on all radio stations in Brazil at the time.
