The story behind
Area recorded 240 chilometri da Smirne as part of their album Arbeit macht frei. The song develops as a kind of mental journey, as if one were traveling those 240 kilometers in imagination. The voice of Demetrio Stratos carries the song, with a style that blends jazz and rock, something that Area did naturally. The lyrics seem to tell a personal story, as if it were a letter written in motion. The song lasts just over five minutes, but in that time it takes you far away. The band includes Patrick Djivas on bass and Eddie Busnello on saxophone, although both left the group after the album. The lyrics were written by Gianni Sassi, who signed as "Frankenstein", and the music is composed by Stratos, Giulio Capiozzo and Djivas, except for "Consapevolezza", which also includes Patrizio Fariselli. All the tracks were recorded under the name of Terzo Fariselli, father of Patrizio, because no one from the band was in SIAE.
