Ultrágeno

Ultrágeno began in Bogotá, in 1996, when Amos Piñeros, ex-vocalist of Catedral, joined up with three musicians who invited him after a while of insistence. Among them was Andrés Barragan, ex-guitarist of Yuri Gagarin. Amos contributed voice, some songs and the name of the band. From the beginning, their sound mixed rock with things like dance, techno and industrial. In the first year they already had seven demos, and the following year they recorded versions of "La Inconvenientemente" and "Almuerzo ejecutivo", which were released in a compilation called Subterránica from the label MTM.

The first album, Ultrágeno, came out in 1998. In the same year, the newspaper El Tiempo described them as a band that combined strong lyrics with a sound that used the violin and electronics. The album included "Drulos", a song that spoke about the life of young people in the underground of the 90s, and "Divino Niño", which reflected Amos's frustration of losing his violin. There was also a mix of "Drulos" made by Sensoria, a techno-industrial band. To promote the album, they made a video that aired on MTV Latino and won an award at the Much Music Awards in Canada.
