More about System of a Down
Biography
System of a Down's history traces back to their early days as Soil, where Tankian and Malakian met in a recording studio in 1992. Despite an eight-year age gap, their shared passion for music brought them together. After Soil disbanded, they decided to form System of a Down, taking their name from a Malakian poem titled "Victims of a Down", which was later tweaked to appeal to a broader audience. In 1995, they performed for the first time under the name Soil and recorded a series of demos that, though never commercially released, circulated in file-sharing networks and helped build their fanbase.
In 1998, they released their self-titled debut album, featuring singles like "Sugar" and "Spiders", which received radio and MTV airplay. Their second album, Toxicity, came out in 2001 and debuted at number one in the U.S. and Canada, later achieving multi-platinum status. The song "Chop Suey!" gained notoriety following the 9/11 attacks, boosting their popularity. Throughout their career, System of a Down has left a significant mark on music, not only for their unique style but also for their commitment to thought-provoking themes.
